Lidiya’s Life!

Child's Story
Age: 5.5
From: Silte, Central Ethiopia
Suffers from: weakness, breathing difficulties, fatigue, cyanosis
Diagnosis: Tetralogy of Fallot, AVSD
Doctors in Ethiopia cannot perform the procedure that Lidiya requires. The Children’s Heart Fund Hospital referred her family to Save a Child’s Heart.
Lidiya’s family are grateful for the opportunity to take her to Israel for treatment.
Lidiya is a playful little girl, but usually very quiet. She loves playing make-believe with other children, and is very close with her big brothers. Her favorite food is rice. Lidiya speaks three languages – Amharic, Silte and Hadiya.
Shortly after she was born, Lidiya was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot, a life-threatening multiple congenital defect that alters the flow of blood through the heart, reducing oxygen levels in the body to dangerously low levels, as well as Atrioventricular Septal Defect, in which holes between the heart's upper and lower chambers and the valves between them don't form correctly, allowing extra blood to flow to the lungs, and forcing the heart to work harder.
Lidiya’s parents were deeply frightened when they heard her diagnosis, but connecting with Save a Child’s Heart has given them hope.
