Soliyana’s Life!

THIS IS SOLIYANA FROM ETHIOPIA. SHE WAS BORN WITH A LIFE-THREATENING CARDIAC DEFECT AND NEEDS OPEN-HEART SURGERY.

Soliyana has a younger brother. She speaks Amharic and loves eating spaghetti and beet stew. Her mother, Netsanet Jemaneh, is a housewife, and her father, Shelemew Niguse, sells animal products.

After suffering from frequent fevers and fatigue, at the age of two Soliyana was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot, a life-threatening multiple congenital heart defect. Open-heart surgery can correct these problems. Without it, her chances of survival are poor.

Soliyana’s life-saving surgery requires funding of $15,000.

Child's Story

Age: 6
From: Sebeta, Oromiya, Ethiopia
Suffers from: Chronic fatigue and frequent fevers
Condition: Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a congenital heart defect with four abnormalities that reduce oxygen levels in the blood and can cause cyanosis, requiring surgical repair.
Physicians in Ethiopia are unable to perform the complex surgery required to mend Soliyana’s heart. They reached out to Save a Child’s Heart, which can provide the treatment in Israel.
Soliyana’s family are thankful for the opportunity to have her health restored.

Soliyana is a lively six-year-old, who enjoys playing with her younger brother and loves dressing-up. She is in her third year of kindergarten, where she shows real promise in mathematics. She also enjoys the swings in the playground.

After her parents received the diagnosis of Soliyana’s condition they were deeply anxious, but felt immense relief and gratitude when, through the Children’s Heart Fund in Ethiopia, they learned that she and her family could travel to Israel to be treated at no cost by Save a Child’s Heart.

Soliyana is looking forward to a healthy future. She dreams of being a doctor when she grows up.
